To be PARTAKERS OF THE DIVINE NATURE
2nd Peter Chapter 1, Verses 4-7
DILIGENCE IS:
IS NOT:
done with persevering, painstaking effort– 
care, readiness, attention, perseverance, work
study, commitment, dedication, endurance, energy

(Adam Clarke– furnishing all earnestness and activity)
lethargy, sloth, apathy, idleness, laziness, procrastination
FAITH IS:
IS NOT:
to hope for things which are not seen, but which are true–  belief, confidence, trust
disbelief, doubt
VIRTUE IS:
IS NOT:
a quality of moral excellence, righteousness, and responsibility–  right, moral goodness, nobility, chastity, excellence

(Adam Clarke– fortitude, courage, strength, to profess faith before men)
wrong, evil, poison, ineffective, promiscuity, sin, vice, wickedness

(weakness, frail, wavering)
KNOWLEDGE IS:
IS NOT:
familiarity, awareness, or understanding gained through experience or study–  understanding, skill, learning, awareness, enlightenment
assumption, ignorance, speculation, suspicion
TEMPERANCE IS:
IS NOT:
abstinence, sobriety, caution, control, discipline, moderation, restraint, self control

(Adam Clarke– a proper and limited use of all earthy enjoyment, keeping every sense under proper restraint never permitting the animal part to subjugate the rational)
debauchery(corruption), excess, indulgence
PATIENCE IS:
IS NOT:
the power of enduring or waiting without discontent–  persistence, tolerance, endurance, mercy, stamina, calmness, constancy
anxiety, exasperation, agitation, disquiet
GODLINESS IS:
IS NOT:
piety to God, real or true religion–  spirituality, sacredness, divinity, holiness, duty to perfection

(Adam Clarke– not only worshiping God with every becoming outward act, but adoring, loving and magnifying him in the heart, a disposition indispensably necessary to salvation, but exceedingly rare among those who profess to be believers)
evil, mediocrity, mortal
BROTHERLY KINDNESS IS:
IS NOT:
affectionate, devoted, friendly, generous, love, mercy, tenderness, compassion, forgiveness


(Adam Clarke– love of the brotherhood, the strongest attachment to Christ’s flock, feeling each as a member of your own body)
anger, cruelty, harshness, maltreatment, evil, antagonism, belligerence, brutality

(being insulated or isolated– concern or compassion from a distance)
CHARITY IS:
IS NOT:
candor, love, affection, tenderness, unconditional, grace
“The Pure Love of Christ”    ( a gift of the Spirit)
envy, hate, sin, covetousness, lust
